| Surbuf's
Recommended Staining Procedure You can achieve outstanding results with your next wood staining project by following these simple steps to achieve a professional stained wood finish using the Surbuf R Series pad with MicroFingers® technology on a random orbit sander/polisher machine. . |
![]() |
| 1) | If
you have a speed contol on your machine, set it to the lowest speed
for application of stain. . |
| 2) | Remove
stain from can and place in an applicator bottle. Use teflon tape on
the threads to create a tight seal. Next, puncture the spout using a
straight pin or safety pin. . |
| 3) | With
the R Series pad on the machine (and the machine turned off),
squirt the stain onto the pad in the spiral pattern shown below. The
diameter of the pattern should be about the size of a dime. Note: If you are using a Festool machine with a center vacuum hole, place the stain outside of the center vacuum hole using a few drops as shown below. Because of the unique vacuum system of the Festool, the stain will not move outward through the MicroFingers® when the machine is turned on if the stain is applied directly over the vacuum hole. . |
| 4) | Once
the stain has been applied to the pad, place the pad on the surface
to be stained and then turn on the machine. Move the machine in lateral
strokes. Note that the first application of stain on a new pad will
absorb very quickly. Repeat the application process in Step 3 until
all of the MicroFingers®
fibers have been coated. You will notice that each application of stain to the pad will go further once the fibers are thoroughly saturated. Resist using more stain than the dime-sized spiral pattern and be sure to thoroughly run out each application of stain so that the MicroFingers® fibers do not become over-saturated. . |
| 5) | For
edge work, run most of the stain out of the pad on the flat surface
and then move towards the edge. This will prevent any potential spattering
of stain onto the surrounding work area. . |
| 6) | For
mineral-based stain products, clean the pad by wiping it with a cloth
that has been saturated with mineral spirits. For non-mineral-based
products, follow the manufacturer's cleaning instructions. . |
